How we designed a bespoke 8.2kW system to handle the high energy demands of an Air Source Heat Pump on a delicate slate roof.
The Challenge: The Hungry Heat Pump
Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs) are fantastic for the environment, but they are electricity-hungry beasts, especially in winter. Our client in Gillingham faced soaring bills due to their heat pump's consumption.
A standard solar installation wouldn't cut it. They needed a system that could:
- Generate maximum power during the shorter days.
- Store energy to run the heat pump after sunset.
- Integrate seamlessly without damaging the property's aesthetics.
The Hardware Solution
18x Aiko 455W Panels
We installed 18 high-efficiency panels for a total array of 8.2 kWp. Aiko panels are chosen for their superior performance in partial shading, ensuring output even on cloudy Dorset days.
Sigenergy SigenStor (8kWh)
The "Brain" of the operation. This battery storage system captures excess sun during the day to run the heat pump at night, shielding the owner from peak evening rates.
Expertise: Slate Roof Specialists
This Gillingham property featured a slate roof, which terrifies many standard installers. Slate is brittle and requires specific flashing kits and delicate handling to ensure watertight integrity.
